Physical symptoms of anxiety
Anxiety is a general mood condition which occurs for no identifiable reason. Anxiety is clearly differentiable from fear.
Anxiety and fear do not mean one and the same. Anxiety occurs when a person is subjected to stress.
Anxiety symptoms
- Heart beats
This is the key physical symptom of anxiety. Usually, a person is not aware of his/her heartbeat. But, when the same person is put under stress or fear, then he/she can feel the heart beat from within. Heart beats can also become fast under excitement and strong emotions which may either be happy ones or sad ones.
- Sweating
This physical symptom of anxiety called sweating is otherwise better known as perspiration. In normal situations, sweating is natural. But when a person is subjected to great levels of fear or anxiety, then sweating increases. Stress is responsible for triggering the brain to produce more hormones for sweating. The best way to avoid sweating in these situations is to relax for some time till the sweating stops completely.
- Trembling
Some people who are vulnerable to anxiety experience a physical symptom of anxiety called as trembling. In this case, the person who is under anxiety experiences trembling or shaking of the arms and legs and in some cases, the entire body trembles. Any change in the environment can also cause the body to tremble.
- Swallowing difficulties
Another physical symptom of anxiety is experienced when swallowing food or saliva. In some cases, choking also occurs. For people who do not suffer from stress or anxiety, swallowing food during dinner time is no big deal. But for people who experience anxiety, dinner time poses a big challenge. During such cases, people are known to choke on their food.
- Chest pain
During extreme levels of tension or fear, chest pain can be experienced. Some people mistake chest pain to be a heart attack. But it is not at all true. Chest pains can also be caused due to an anxiety disorder or a nerve pain.
- Stomach pain
Another common physical symptom of anxiety is stomach pain or abdominal pain. Since there are several possible reasons in determining the cause of a stomach pain, it is wiser to approach a local doctor to find the root cause for the abdominal pain.
- Nausea and vomiting
These are classified as one of the most harmless physical symptoms of anxiety. A peaceful environment and a complete relaxed mind can relieve a person of nausea and vomiting.
- Dizziness
This is a common physical symptom of anxiety. Dizziness is otherwise better known as light headedness. Dizziness occurs to inner confusion. Most people with dizziness have an anxiety disorder. This may sound ridiculous but it is found and proved to be true. A small headache accompanies by dizziness is assumed to be anxiety in most cases.
- Hot/cold flashes
Sweaty palms are usually examples of hot flashes. When our anxiety rises, we feel more sweaty and hotter.
