There are several causes for the absence of vitamin D in the human body. Fewer intakes of substances that produce vitamin D is the root cause of the deficiency of vitamin D. Let us see some of the causes of low vitamin D:-

* Lack of sunlight exposure

This is the main cause of low vitamin D. Sunlight is the chief source of this vitamin D. the layer that is found under the skin is responsible for the production of vitamin D in our body with the help of sunlight. Sunlight is the major source of growth for plants. So, for human beings also it plays a major role. People who live in places such as the northern hemisphere do not experience sunlight at all. So these people have low vitamin D levels. Also, aged people and small children do not get enough exposure to sunlight since elderly people and babies remain inside shelter. Considering all the above points, the lack of sunlight exposure is the root cause of vitamin D deficiency.

* Lack of vitamin D in food items

This is another cause of low vitamin D. generally speaking; vitamin D is very low in infants and babies. This is because the primary food for these babies is breast milk. Human breast milk is found to be very low in vitamin D content. Since infants consume breast milk mostly, they do not have enough vitamin D and hence the deficiency occurs. Hence, it is necessary to consume food items that provide us vitamin D. food items that are rich in this vitamin D are beef liver, fish, egg yolk and cheese. People who are vegetarians are reported to have low vitamin D levels. These people are advised to consume vitamin D health tablets.

* Effects of diseases

The layer below the skin is the main cause of manufacturing vitamin D with the help of sunlight. Due to the effects of some diseases, the skin is not able to manufacture sunlight. Skin diseases may be the root cause. Liver disorder and kidney disorder can also lead to this strange predicament. In these cases, the vitamin D is not produced enough and so the deficiency occurs and this is also a major cause of low vitamin D in the human body.

* Physical condition

This is also a major cause of low vitamin D level. The physical condition such as the color of the skin may contribute to the low production of vitamin D. dark skin color can be stated as one of the causes of low vitamin D. another important cause is obesity. This can occur even if the intake of sunlight and vitamin D foods are good.

Doctors advise people with low vitamin D levels to sit under the sun for a maximum of 30 minutes per day.
